Culture Hub Team

We’re a small, fast, remote team working with freedom and autonomy, using video, audio and text to tell Clipboard Health’s story, so you can experience what it’s like to work with us.

We tell people who we are so they can make good decisions.

Clipboard Health has a distinct culture. We value speed and autonomy. We reward honesty. We look to reasoning from first principles to make our decisions, and we push people to stay curious every single day.

For people who want to work with us, all these things matter. We want people to know about us so they can know if we are a good fit for each other.

‣

Our Mission

We enable potential future team members to get a straight-up and raw inside look into the life at Clipboard Health and what it’s like to be a part of our culture.

Our goal is to open-source our culture. Most people have probably heard about open-source only when it comes to code and technology. But, why is it only limited to those areas if the principles of the open-source mindset have led to so much endless innovation and success?

If we apply the principles of open-source (e.g. transparency, collaboration, community) to other aspects of an organization like culture, growth, or personal development, you can see that sharing what has brought value and innovation to yourself inevitably leads to further improvements when you share it openly with others to allow to collaborate. And it gets even better when we look at hiring: By sharing what has helped you succeed, you automatically start attracting people who share the same interest, passion, and likely the skillset you need.

We open-source our culture by openly sharing what we do, how we work and think, who the people are behind our critical mission, and by inviting people to interact and collaborate with us.

‣

Some people learn best by reading…

For them, we try to provide a blueprint of our organization, publish articles, and internal written communication and make sure there’s plenty of interesting insight about our culture and how we work.

‣

Some people learn from podcasts and audio…

So we make sure that there’s something for them as well to observe interesting discussions and topics.

‣

Some people love video

Because it allows them to get a feel for the kind of people they are dealing with, so we reach out to the most interesting, representative voices in the company and have conversations so you can see their faces and know who they are and how they think.

No matter how someone wants to learn about us, we make sure they have options that help them.

‣

Some people love to interact

So we invite them to join one of our ask-us-anything sessions to meet our teams, hackathons, open technology days, unConferences, or our latest format the async podcast challenge.

‣

How We Work

We are a small and fast cross-functional task force working remotely with a lot of freedom and autonomy. We use video, audio and words to tell Clipboard Health’s story to future team members, healthcare workers, and facilities.

We want you to be able to know everything we know about ourselves. Our goal is to open-source our culture to give people a straight-up and raw inside look into the life at Clipboard, how we work, and our people.

These are our self-imposed principles we try to live up to with every decision we make:

‣

No hiding who we are

We don’t feel very good about the term ā€œemployer brandingā€. We are trying to communicate with you, not market to you.
We are not here to sell you on our company or tell you how perfect and amazing everything is at CBH. We want you to end up somewhere you fit well and do good work. Whether or not that’s us, we want you to have what you need to make a good decision.
We respect you enough to know you’ve seen it all and can pick out corporate copy a mile away. Our philosophy is that the only way to really start up a conversation is to be open and honest, to ā€œshow our wartsā€ and let you know that what you are seeing is really what we are.
We want to give you a straight-up and raw inside look into the life at CBH, how we work, and who we are as people.
Since Ownership is one of our most important values, we believe you are the best to decide for yourself if we are the best place for you to be.

Where we don’t live up to these principles, we fix it instead of hiding it. If you see a place we fall short of what we say we are, let us know!

Open-source mindset - This Is The Way!

Have you ever asked yourself why open-source only exists in the realms of technology and code? Probably not, but we did.

But why is it only limited to those areas if the principles of the open-source mindset have led to so much innovation and success?

So how about open-sourcing culture?

‣

Let’s make some NOISE

We are not here to yet build another career page or write tech blogs in the way everyone else does.
We revolutionize every aspect of our work and radically rethink the status quo.
We are obsessed with doing things in a ā€œdifferent, betterā€ way ranging from tiny tweaks to huge, hail-mary tests. When we do the same thing other people do, it’s because it’s the best method we’ve found, not because it’s the only thing we’ve tried.
We love to dream big and follow crazy ideas.
We want to enable people to experience us in a totally different and new way.
‣

The sky is NOT the limit

We do regular brainstorming sessions, which we call CRAZY 10x, where we try to forget about all constraints and just come up with impossible-looking ideas. Most of them never see the light, but a lot of the innovation that we develop arises from those moments of freedom and creativity.
However big or crazy we dream or how much budget a final implementation would require, if there is a chance for high impact we do everything in our power to test and further validate the idea. We love breaking the status quo!
‣

Move fast. Learn fast. Ask for permission later.

When we have a new idea, ā€œtoo crazyā€ isn’t a consideration. We care about if it could work, and how big an impact it would make if it does.
From there, our default is to prototype and test. It’s faster, we learn more than if we spent hours and hours of time talking about it, and we get to have more fun and build more things. We fail a lot, and that’s OK - this is how we find the big impacts to make up for those failures and push us forward.
‣

No dependencies

Everyone who has ever worked on projects related to recruitment/hiring knows that the people who need to recruit the most are the busiest, especially the hiring managers and the teams involved in important work. That’s why they constantly look for more people to join their teams. But if they are that busy, how do you get all those insights from them to create more sustainable solutions?
It’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem. You need their time for input and insight to help them succeed with their hiring goals, but they are often just too busy with hiring and building our product.
We have a responsibility to make really smart decisions regarding the ROI of their time investments, and work to be able to save more of their time in the future.
At the start, we like to fly below the radar, testing our idea by building small prototypes or as we call them ā€œpre-totypesā€. Once we have a case, we share it within the organization to create awareness. In the best case, people come to us asking for more and how they can get involved šŸ˜‡
